Inauguration of the Volcano Museum/CIV!

Developed in partnership with the Royal Museum for Central Africa, within the framework of the HARISSA project, the Volcano Museum / Volcano Information Centre (CIV) is an information centre where the population of Goma can acquire a better knowledge of volcanoes in general, the monitoring activities of the Goma Volcano Observatory (GVO), the historical eruptions of the Nyiragongo volcano that affected the city of Goma in 1977, 2002 and 2021, while learning how to better cope with the dangers of lava flows.

This Virunga Volcano Museum was presented at the Cities on Volcanoes 11 conference held from 12 to 17 June in Heraklion (Greece).
